NCLC 7 in TEF Canada: Exact Scores You Need
NCLC 7 on TEF Canada for Express Entry: listening 249, reading 207, writing 310, speaking 310 (old-scale). Why it matters and an 8-week plan.
TEF Canada
How to book TEF Canada
There’s no central booking site: each approved centre sells its own seats, on its own schedule. Here’s the whole path, from choosing a centre to holding your results.
The path
Booking TEF Canada in eight steps
Choose four tests or the citizenship option
For Express Entry and other immigration programs you need all four tests, taken on the same day. For citizenship you need only listening and speaking, and many centres sell that option for less. Book TEF Canada, not TEFAQ or TEF IRN, unless you’ve checked those fit your purpose. Candidates must be over 16.
Know the score you need
Look up your target NCLC and what it means in TEF scores with the NCLC converter. For IRCC, use the “Équivalence ancien score” on your certificate, not the score out of 699.
Pick a centre and learn how it releases seats
Use the test centre finder to compare dates, fees and distance. Each centre page tells you whether seats appear on a live counter, open at an announced time, go through a waiting list, or get added without warning.
Get your account and ID ready before seats open
Most centres book online: create your account early and have your identity document at hand. Enter your name exactly as it appears on the ID you’ll bring on exam day. Each centre sets its own ID rule, so read it on the centre’s page.
Book and pay
When your date opens, book straight away: popular sessions can sell out in minutes. The fee is set by the centre, not by Le français des affaires, and it’s shown on each centre page with the date we read it.
Watch for your convocation
The centre confirms your place and sends the time and room. Check the details, and contact the centre if anything is wrong.
Prepare with a plan
Use the prep plan on your centre’s page to map out the weeks: a level check, a full mock test, work on your weakest skill, then a second mock.
Sit the exam and get your results
Arrive early with your ID. Reading, listening and writing are on computer and speaking is face to face, about 175 minutes of tests in all. Results arrive 1 to 10 working days after the test and are valid for 2 years.
Seats go fast
Be ready at the opening time
At the busiest centres we’ve watched openings sell out in minutes. Be logged in before booking opens, with your ID and payment card at hand, and keep a second centre in mind.

Your booking checklist
| Have ready | Why |
|---|---|
| Your identity document | Your name must match it, and you’ll bring it on exam day. |
| Four tests or citizenship only | The citizenship option is cheaper but doesn’t count for Express Entry. |
| Account at the centre | Creating it during a seat release can cost you the seat. |
| Payment card | Some centres hold the seat only once you pay. |
| A backup centre and date | If your first choice sells out while you’re booking. |
After the exam
Results, validity and retakes
Results arrive 1 to 10 working days after the test. They’re valid for 2 years, and for Express Entry IRCC needs them to be valid both when you create your profile and when you submit your application.
Missed your target? You can sit TEF Canada again after 20 days. Many candidates book their next date as soon as they know they need it, then use the weeks in between on the weakest skill.
