Alliance Française d’Ottawa

TCFTEF

Alliance Française d’Ottawa offers both TEF Canada and TCF Canada, mostly the computer-based version for TCF, through its online student portal, which shows places for each date. New dates have tended to appear on Mondays around ten weeks out, and booking closes two to three weeks before the test. The centre won’t share dates by phone or email, so the website is your only source.

How to book at Alliance Française d’Ottawa

  1. Make sure you live in Canada: the centre only takes TEF registrations from Canadian residents, and the test can’t be taken online.

  2. Log in to the student portal at afottawa.extranet-aec.com, or create an account if you’re new to the centre.

  3. In the “Exams” section, choose a TEF Canada date for permanent residence (4 tests) or citizenship (2 tests). TCF Canada is booked separately, mostly as computer-based sessions.

  4. Upload your ID (a passport if you’re applying for permanent residence) and pay the full amount online by credit card.

  5. Watch for your convocation by email about 5 days before the test, with your exact schedule.

How this centre releases seats

Live seat counter
The centre lists each date with the seats left, and seats can appear at any time when dates are added or someone cancels.

Tips from candidates and the centre

  • Check the website regularly. The centre says it does not announce new dates by email or phone.
  • Block out the full day. TEF candidates are asked to plan for 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Bring the right ID. For TEF Canada permanent residence, only a passport works. For citizenship, a PR card or driver’s licence is also accepted. If you’re turned away for the wrong ID, you lose the fee and must wait a month before registering again.
  • Changes and cancellations before the registration deadline cost a non-refundable $100. Once the deadline passes, nothing can be changed or refunded.
  • Plan for at least 30 days between two TEF registrations here, a longer gap than some other centres ask for.
  • For TCF Canada, have both your passport and a printed convocation with you. The centre turns away candidates missing either one.
