4. Job offer and trade certificate

Only Federal Skilled Trades requires one of these. A job offer can also free you from proof of funds.

Do you have a valid job offer in Canada?

Do you have a Canadian certificate of qualification in your trade?

Are you authorized to work in Canada right now?

5. Funds, points and where you'll live

French counts

How French helps you qualify, and then get invited

French is an official language, so a TCF Canada or TEF Canada result meets the language requirement exactly like an English test. NCLC levels for French match CLB levels for English one to one.

Reaching NCLC 7 in all four French abilities does more than make you eligible: it adds up to 50 CRS points and opens French-language category draws, which have had some of the lowest cut-offs. Our NCLC score converter turns your TCF or TEF scores into levels, and the category checker shows the draws you can enter.

Once you're eligible

From eligible to invited: the next four steps

  1. Calculate your CRS score

Being eligible gets you into the pool. Invitations go to the highest Comprehensive Ranking System scores, so calculate yours and compare it with recent draws.

  2. Check the category draws

French-language and occupation categories have their own rounds. See which ones fit you with the category checker.

  3. Raise your score

French is often the fastest lever. The CRS score booster ranks every change by the points it adds.

  4. Prepare your documents

Start your Express Entry document checklist now: reference letters, police certificates and funds letters take time.
