1. Your French

IRCC needs NCLC 5 or higher in listening and speaking. Reading and writing are not assessed.

How can you prove your French?

2. Where the job is

The program covers every province and territory except Quebec.

3. Your job offer

You need a valid job offer from a Canadian employer. Any skill level counts, with one exception.

Do you have a job offer from an employer in Canada?

TEER category of the job

Find your NOC code and TEER
4. Your employer's part

Before you apply, your employer submits the offer in IRCC's Employer Portal under the Mobilité Francophone exemption (C16) and pays the employer compliance fee of $230. Then they send you the offer of employment number.

Will your employer submit the offer under C16 and pay the $230 fee?

5. General work permit requirements

Every work permit applicant must also meet these. Answer for yourself and your family.

  • You'll leave Canada when the permit ends
  • You have enough money for you and your family while in Canada, and to return home
  • No criminal record that makes you inadmissible, and you're not a security risk
  • A medical exam if IRCC asks for one
  • The employer isn't on IRCC's list of ineligible employers

Do you meet all of these?
