French listening comprehension practice: hear the announcement, catch your train
En voiture !
French listening comprehension practice in a busy station hall. You hear a real-style announcement (Le train à destination de Rimouski partira à dix-sept heures quarante-cinq, voie treize.), three departure boards differ by one detail, and you have seconds to jump on the right train. Thirty levels add delays, platform changes, cancelled trains and, at rush hour, two trains in one announcement, while the clock shortens and the replays run out.

What it trains
Catching the key facts in a fast French announcement: 24-hour times (dix-sept heures quarante-cinq), platform numbers that sound alike (voie trois / voie treize), Canadian destinations, and the words that change everything: est retardé de vingt minutes, au lieu de la voie deux, est annulé, prochain départ.
Why it matters for TCF and TEF Canada
The listening tests of TCF Canada and TEF Canada include short everyday recordings such as messages and public announcements, and you hear each one only once. The questions often turn on one detail: a time, a place, a change of plan. Training your ear to catch those details fast helps you reach the listening level you need, whether that’s NCLC 7 for Express Entry or NCLC 4 for citizenship.

Rules and tips to remember
Listen for three facts, not every word
Destination, time, platform. Hold those three and let the rest go: Votre attention, s’il vous plaît is just the opening.
The last number isn’t always the answer
In partira de la voie six au lieu de la voie deux, the train leaves from voie 6. au lieu de (instead of) and et non de introduce the old platform.
Hours first, then minutes
Stations use the 24-hour clock: dix-neuf heures quinze is 19 h 15. Watch the endings: quinze (15) and cinquante (50) are easy to swap.
A delay changes the time, not the train
Le train de dix-huit heures est retardé de vingt minutes: it’s still the 18 h train on the board, it just leaves at 18 h 20.
Cancelled? Listen for what comes next
Le train de dix-huit heures est annulé is only half the news. The useful part follows: prochain départ à dix-huit heures quarante, voie neuf.
