French grammar game: cross the pond in 12 jumps

Saut de grenouille

Each lily pad carries an answer to a grammar question: the gender of a noun, a verb form or the connector that fits. Jump on the right one; a wrong pad sinks and costs you a life. Reach the far bank in 12 jumps. 30 levels lead from un or une and the present to the subjunctive, B2 connectors and every tense against the clock.

What it trains

Three grammar points that come back in every written and spoken answer: noun gender (un or une), verb forms from 38 high-frequency verbs, and connectors such as cependant, donc or bien que.

Why it matters for TCF and TEF Canada

TCF and TEF Canada writing and speaking are judged partly on grammatical accuracy. Gender and verb-form slips are among the most common in learners’ French, and they shrink quickly with repetition.

Rules and tips to remember

  • Say the whole phrase

Read une maison, nous avons fini, bien qu’il soit aloud. Grammar sticks in chunks, not in isolated words.

  • Learn nouns with their article

Don’t learn maison, learn une maison. The article is part of the word.

  • Watch connectors that change the mood

Bien que and pour que take the subjunctive; parce que and même si take the indicative.
