Days of the week and months in French: hear it, deliver it

La livraison par drone

A listening game for the days of the week, the months, dates and times in French. A customer tells you when they want their parcel (samedi, le vingt et un mars, dix-huit heures quinze) and you drop it from your drone onto the right square of a giant calendar. Thirty levels in five worlds take you from lundi and mardi to jeudi prochain, dans quinze jours and appointments that move, the way people really say them.

  3. 3Wrong door? See the right square, the sentence word for word and why.

What it trains

Hearing calendar French at natural speed: the days of the week (mardi or mercredi?), the twelve months and four seasons, dates with le premier and look-alikes like treize and trois, the 24-hour clock and everyday times (moins le quart, du soir), and the words that shift a day: hier, demain, prochain, dernier, dans huit jours, la veille.

Why it matters for TCF and TEF Canada

Dates and times carry the answer in many TCF Canada and TEF Canada listening questions: when a shop opens, when a meeting moves, when a train leaves. The TEF Canada listening test includes public announcements and answering-machine messages, and in both tests each recording is played only once. Catching the day and the time on the first try helps you reach the listening level you need, whether that’s NCLC 7 for Express Entry or NCLC 4 for citizenship.

Rules and tips to remember

  • Monday comes first

The French week starts on lundi and ends on dimanche, and day names take no capital: lundi, mardi, mercredi, jeudi, vendredi, samedi, dimanche.

  • Le premier, then plain numbers

The 1st is le premier; every other date uses the plain number: le deux mars, le vingt et un juin. No “the” and “of”: the number comes straight before the month.

  • Huit jours is one week

dans huit jours means in one week and dans quinze jours in two, because French counts today too. Aujourd’hui en huit is the same weekday next week.

  • Wait for the end of the sentence

In the last world, plans change: reporté au, pardon, je me suis trompé, jusqu’au 30 inclus. The date that counts is often the second one, so keep listening.
