L’Alliance New York

TCFTEF

L’Alliance New York, formerly FIAF, runs TEF Canada in Manhattan and TCF Canada in both Manhattan and Montclair, NJ. Each date has its own registration deadline, and sold-out dates keep a waiting list. Members pay a lower fee, which can matter if you plan more than one sitting.

How this centre releases seats

Live seat counter
The centre lists each date with the seats left, and seats can appear at any time when dates are added or someone cancels.

Tips from candidates and the centre

  • Before the deadline, cancelling costs US$80 and transferring US$50. After it, there’s no refund, and no transfer without a medical certificate.
  • In the TCF, reading, listening and writing are on computer, and the oral is face to face with an examiner.
  • Alongside Friday sessions in Manhattan, the TCF calendar has Monday sessions in Montclair on 26 October, 16 November and 14 December 2026.
  • The TEF page mentions both a one-month and a two-month wait between attempts, so check with the Language Center before rebooking.
  • Waiting lists can be long. On 27 September 2026, 46 people were waiting for the 16 Oct TCF, 56 for the 6 Nov TCF, 8 for the 30 Oct TEF and 2 for the 20 Nov TEF.
  • Allow 5–6 weeks for your certificate to arrive by post. It’s valid for two years.
