How to play

  1. 1Each clue is an English meaning: find its French word in the grid.
  2. 2Drag across the letters (across, down or diagonally) to circle a word.
  3. 3Accents are left out of the grid; the found word shows them.

What it trains

Recall and spelling: you can only find a word if you can already spell it in your head.

Why it matters for TCF and TEF Canada

Spelling counts in the writing tasks, and knowing what a word looks like helps you spot it in a long reading text. The puzzle trains both at a calm pace.

Rules and tips to remember

  • Spell it before you search

Spell the word in your head first, then hunt for its rarest letter: a q, z, x, y or k stands out in the grid.

  • Accents are left out

élève appears as ELEVE in the grid. When you find a word, look at where its accents go.

  • Look in every direction

Words run across, down and diagonally. Sweep the grid one direction at a time.
