Rules and tips to remember

  • Start with the common letters

    E is by far the most common letter in French, followed by letters like a, s, i, n, t and r.

  • One letter covers its accents

    Tapping e also reveals é, è and ê, so think about the plain spelling.

  • Guess the ending

    Many nouns end in -tion, -ment or -eur. Once two letters of an ending appear, try the rest.
