French picture vocabulary: see it, say it, spell it

L’imagier

Everyday things as pictures: pick the French name, listen and tap the right picture, or spell the word yourself. Every answer shows the article and says the word aloud.

Turn your sound on: this game speaks French.

How to play

  1. 1See a picture and pick its French name, hear a word and tap its picture, or spell it yourself.
  2. 2Every answer shows the article (un, une, du, des) and says the word aloud.
  3. 3When you spell, accents are optional, but we show you where they go.

What it trains

Concrete everyday vocabulary, 261 pictures in 8 themes, always with its article, plus the link between the written word and its sound.

Why it matters for TCF and TEF Canada

Exam tasks start from real life: housing, shopping, health, transport. Naming everyday things quickly, with the right gender, keeps you fluent when you describe your situation in writing or speaking.

Rules and tips to remember

  • Say the article with the noun

une fourchette, un couteau: the gender is the hardest part to guess, so always say the article aloud.

  • Watch for l’

Le and la become l’ before a vowel or a silent h (l’arbre, l’horloge), which hides the gender. Learn those words with un or une.

  • Try the listening mode

Hearing a word and finding its picture skips English altogether, which is the reflex the listening section needs.
