How to play

  1. 1Tap a card to turn it over, then tap a second one.
  2. 2A French word and its meaning (or its picture) make a pair: it stays up and you hear it.
  3. 3Clear the board in as few moves as you can to earn three stars.

What it trains

Word–meaning links, with sound: every match is said aloud, so the spelling and the pronunciation go in together.

Why it matters for TCF and TEF Canada

Vocabulary is the foundation of every section. A memory game makes you recall where a word was and what it means many times in a few minutes, and that recall is what makes words stick.

Rules and tips to remember

  • Say each card as you turn it

Naming the word aloud gives you a second memory cue and practises pronunciation at the same time.

  • Clear one corner at a time

A small area is easier to hold in your head than the whole board, so you need fewer moves.

  • Play a second round

Same words, fewer moves: the second round is where the words really settle.
