France Éducation international, which runs the TCF, has suspended re-correction requests for the writing and speaking tests for sessions held from 1 September 2026, for about one year. If you take TCF Canada now and disagree with your writing or speaking score, your only option is to retake the test.

What changed

The notice on France Éducation international's TCF Canada page says, in French: from the TCF sessions of 1 September 2026, requests to re-correct the oral and written expression tests "will no longer be accepted for a period of about 1 year". The reason given is to improve its tools and streamline how requests are handled. The service is due to resume in autumn 2027; no exact date has been published.

Three details matter:

  • The test date counts, not the result date. A test sat on or after 1 September 2026 cannot be re-corrected, even if the results arrive weeks later.
  • It covers writing and speaking. These are the two tests marked by examiners; listening and reading are multiple-choice.
  • Problems on the day must be reported on the day. France Éducation international says a candidate who had a difficulty during the test must tell the centre the same day, right after the session ends.

Nothing else about TCF Canada changed: the format, the 2-year validity of results and IRCC's NCLC conversion are the same. Retakes remain unlimited, with at least 20 days between two TCF Canada sittings.

Who it affects

  • Everyone sitting TCF Canada between 1 September 2026 and autumn 2027, for Express Entry, a provincial nominee program or citizenship.
  • Candidates one level short. If your writing or speaking lands just below NCLC 7 (for example 9 out of 20 instead of 10), a re-mark is no longer a way to close the gap. Plan for a possible retest and its fee in your timeline.
  • TEF Canada candidates are not affected. TEF Canada is run by CCI Paris Île-de-France, which has its own rules. Our TCF Canada vs TEF Canada comparison explains the differences between the two tests.

What to do now

  1. Aim above the line in writing and speaking. With no re-mark, a buffer of one NCLC level is the safest plan. Practise with the TCF Canada writing practice and TCF Canada speaking practice, then sit a timed free mock test before you book.
  2. Leave room for a retest. Check TCF Canada exam dates so a second sitting, at least 20 days later, still fits before your Express Entry deadlines. Read how TCF Canada results work and what NCLC 7 means on the TCF Canada.
  3. On test day: if something goes wrong (noise, a technical issue, timing), report it to the centre before you leave.
  4. Know what your score is worth: check your CRS score and compare it with the full draw history.
