Since 25 March 2025, Express Entry gives no CRS points for a job offer. We checked the CRS criteria and IRCC's job-offer page again on 5 October 2026: the points are still removed.
What changed
Before 25 March 2025, a qualifying job offer added 50 points, or 200 points for senior management jobs (NOC Major Group 00). IRCC announced the removal on 23 December 2024 as a measure against fraud, especially the buying and selling of Labour Market Impact Assessments. It applies to everyone in the pool, including people who created their profile before that date. Candidates who had already been invited were not affected.
In its 2026 discussion paper on Express Entry reform, IRCC describes job-offer points as "temporarily removed as of March 2025" and floats bringing them back only for high-wage jobs. That is a proposal from a consultation that closed on 24 May 2026. Nothing has been enacted.
Who it affects
- Candidates whose score depended on a job offer. Without the 50 or 200 points, many profiles fell below recent cut-offs. In 2026, Canadian Experience Class rounds have needed 507 to 523 points.
- People being offered a "job offer for points" deal. There are no points to buy. Treat any offer like that as a red flag.
- French speakers. French points were not touched by this change. The French bonus (25 or 50 points) is still in force, though it is also under review; see what we know about the French bonus.
What a job offer still does
A valid job offer can still matter for eligibility, even though it adds no CRS points:
- it can help you meet the Federal Skilled Worker selection grid or the Federal Skilled Trades requirements;
- some provincial nominee streams require one, and a nomination adds 600 CRS points.
Check the current details on IRCC's job-offer page before relying on this.
What to do now
- Recalculate without job-offer points: use the CRS calculator and compare with the full draw history.
- Look at language first. Language is often the fastest lever. For French speakers, NCLC 7 in all four skills adds bonus points and opens French-category rounds. Convert your TCF or TEF score to NCLC.
